Seeming contradictions have been a constant in my life. I grew up in the rural South and now live in New York City. I can be down-to-earth or fanciful, a worker or a manager, intensely focused yet a dreamer. My work walks a tightrope, too: affordable/hand done, modern/ancient, fragile/tough, artistic/popular, simple/ornate.
I’ve been a decorative painter for over twenty years, often in some of the finest homes in New York. My creativity has been enhanced by developing projects with the clients and decorators with whom they work. A client often describes only a dream of what he or she wants for their surroundings. I experiment and find new ways to present these dreams using paint and paper: creating a powder room inspired by the inside of a seashell, turning walls into reflections of smoked glass, reproducing its own floor plan on the wall of a room, importing and using Italian encaustic years before it became the new standard in New York, hand-painting ornate screens and carpets. The projects I've taken on have included all of the above and more.
For the past few years I have been developing a new technique for wall designs. Decorative Motifs are cut and hand painted designs on paper, which melt onto the wall when applied creating a thoroughly customizable and unique wall. They can be applied to any number of painted surfaces, and also come as wallpaper (in sheets or rolls) or on canvas. Please take a look at my portfolio, and bookmark the page as we add new designs and projects.
I would be happy to meet with you and show you my portfolio, or speak with you about a design or a specific project. Email me for more information.
